When a group of independent businesses share more than just a postcode, something special happens. In Carliol Square, that’s exactly what’s unfolding this December.
Ametrine Newcastle, alongside neighbouring businesses including Rituals Revived, Fern and Fossil Tattoo, Citre, Calm AF Sound Bath, and Apre Hair, has launched The Big Carliol Square Giveaway, a charity raffle raising funds for Doctors Without Borders.
A community-led initiative
The idea emerged from conversations between the business owners in the square, all of whom share a commitment to their craft and to the Newcastle community that supports them. Rather than each business working in isolation, they saw an opportunity to come together for something bigger.
Dr Bryony Elder, founder of Ametrine Newcastle, explained the thinking behind the initiative: “Carliol Square is full of creative, community-minded businesses, and we wanted to come together to do something that gives back this Christmas. Doctors Without Borders provides life-saving work globally, and this is our small way of helping while also celebrating the independent spirit of our area.”
The collaboration reflects the unique character of Carliol Square itself, a mix of wellness, beauty, art, and healing practices, all independently run and deeply connected to the local community.
What’s on offer
Each business in the square has donated a prize, creating a collection of experiences that showcase what makes this corner of Newcastle so distinctive.
The prize package includes:
- A 30-minute tarot reading from Rituals Revived
- A £50 fine-line tattoo voucher from Fern and Fossil Tattoo
- A £53 lash or brow service from Citre
- A group sound bath session from Calm AF Sound Bath
- A £100 salon voucher from Apre Hair
- A lymphatic drainage massage plus custom skin appointment from Ametrine Newcastle
- A £25 voucher from King Baby Bagels
Together, the prizes are worth over £500, and every penny raised from ticket sales goes directly to Doctors Without Borders, with no deductions for administration or costs.
Why Doctors Without Borders
The choice of charity was deliberate. Doctors Without Borders delivers emergency medical care in conflict zones, disaster areas, and places where healthcare systems have collapsed. Their work is rooted in care, access, and showing up when it matters most.
For businesses built around wellbeing, aesthetics, and personal care, the alignment felt natural. It’s about looking after people, whether that’s through a treatment in Newcastle or medical aid in a crisis zone halfway across the world.
How it works
The raffle launches on 1st December and runs until 20th December, with the winner announced via Instagram just before Christmas.
To enter, participants need to:
- Follow all participating businesses on Instagram
- Like and share the giveaway post to their stories
- Purchase raffle tickets at £5 each via this page.
The winner will be chosen at random, and will receive all seven prizes, creating a collection of experiences across beauty, wellness, and self-care.
Supporting local, helping globally
What makes this initiative particularly meaningful is its dual focus: celebrating the independent businesses that make Newcastle vibrant, while contributing to a global cause that saves lives.
It’s a reminder that community isn’t just about proximity. It’s about shared values, collaboration, and the willingness to look beyond your own doorstep when the opportunity arises.
For Ametrine, this aligns perfectly with the clinic’s ethos of care, connection, and giving back. Whether it’s supporting clients through their skin journeys or contributing to humanitarian medical work, the thread is the same: showing up for people when they need it.
A gesture with impact
While a charity raffle might seem modest in scale, every contribution counts. Funds raised could help supply medical equipment, support vaccination programmes, or keep a clinic operational in a crisis zone.
For the businesses involved, it’s also a chance to express gratitude to the Newcastle community that has supported them, and to demonstrate what’s possible when independent businesses work together with purpose.
Get involved
The raffle is open to anyone who wants to support the cause. Tickets can be purchased through any of the participating businesses’ Instagram accounts, and sharing the giveaway post helps spread the word further.
Even without entering, sharing the initiative amplifies its reach, which means more funds for Doctors Without Borders and more awareness of the good work happening in Carliol Square.
